3 This is part of the Birkenau concentration camp, seen from one of the guard towers. Almost all of the huts are gone, but you can still see most of the chimneys. There were heaps more on the other side of the tower. At one stage there were about 200,000 people at this camp alone. That is roughly the size of Geelong.
4 This is my favorite memorial in the world. The dog's owner had a heart attack and died in the middle of a roundabout. He was taken away, but the dog waited for over a year for him to come back. During this time he never left the roundabout and was fed by kindly locals. Eventually someone managed to coax him away to live with them.

6 You can see signs of the war everywhere in Warsaw. Here are some bullet holes, and places where they have been repaired in one of the government buildings.
